Fauquier Business and Professional Women

2008 Scholarship Guidelines

The Fauquier Business and Professional Women (FBPW) organization awards one scholarship to a graduating female senior, planning to go on to college to continue her studies, from each public high school in Fauquier County.

Each scholarship is a one-time award of $500 presented in the Spring of the student’s senior year.

Applicants must complete a short Scholarship Application form, consisting of four questions, and write a brief essay in response to a specific question listed on the application form.

Applicants should write their names only on the cover sheet of the Scholarship Application form, not on the question page or their essay page(s).

Completed Scholarship Applications forms with essays attached must be returned to FBPW by April 11, 2008. Applicants should have all materials in to the Career Center by April 9, 2008.

If selected as the winner, the applicant must agree to have her essay published in the FBPW newsletter, to attend an FBPW meeting to read her essay to the membership, and to write one follow-up letter to the FBPW newsletter during the course of her first college year.

ESSAY QUESTION

Imagine this: You were appointed to a special National Youth Commission to advise the next President of the United States on matters of importance to young people. Your Commission has spent the past year researching the key issues facing our country. You have been selected to write a brief Introduction to the Commission’s “Report to the President.” The Introduction describes the single most important issue that the President should address, tells why the issue is important, and offers suggestions for immediate and long-term actions.

INSTRUCTIONS: Discuss this in 500 words or less. You will be evaluated on content, grammar, and writing style. The winning essay will be printed in the Fauquier Business and Professional Women newsletter, and you will be expected to read it at the June 19 meeting of the FBPW membership. Please attach these two pages to your essay and return them to the Career Center by April 9.
